A reading from the letters of St Peter (Jones) to the Editor

(aka More Blade Musings)

Ben, in the monthly magazine you said there was some discussion around my alleged about face from Honda to Yamaha. You also mentioned Dave, Paul and Cliff had some disparaging comments.

It’s nice that I’m worthy of discussion and my choice of bike creates so much interest among some Club members.

To avoid any further confusion or subjectivity on this matter, I believe it’s appropriate I give my views as to why I sold the Blade.

1.  It’s a Honda

2.  Oil burner, yours does too

3.  The R1 now set up properly by Promecca is a better bike in build quality and looks

4.  Everyone else has one

5.  My daughter didn’t like it and called it a pug

Recently there has been much discussion around the new Blade and its supposed fantasticness. Every month the magazine has someone talking it up; I’m even getting emails on its greatness.  This all seems over the top to me and covering up some insecurities owners may have with their bikes.

In the bike world, as in the dog world, owners are like their bikes. This is very evident in the Club. All I need to do is look at the bike and you I can read the owner like a book. How they treat their bikes gives an even greater insight.

I admit to my short affair and devotion with the Blade; all new things are exiting. A brand new Camry would be nice for a week!

When put to the test, the Blade came up short. So it was dumped in favour of my much more beautiful, faithful and reliable R1.

If you like things safe, bland and predictable with no "Je ne se quoi" then Honda is the bike of choice.  Honda owners are like that. My theory is supported by the fact that no one wants any of my aftermarket Blade mods. Too risqué for them. A hot Blade or hot Honda is a contradiction, an oxymoron. Hondas are not conducive to individuality.

Now what were Dave, Paul and Cliff saying about me?!

Cheers,

Peter Jones

p.s. Paul Southwell has already mentioned the greatness of the R1 and is welcome to recover on my baby when I move on to my next indulgence.

Yesterday’s Sunday ride (20/12) included one very nice Ducati 1098S. I was mesmerised by its beauty, her throbbing note like a siren calling me to indulge in her perfect form.  Maybe this should be my next affair. Unfortunately, a job must come first, then a bike. Can’t buy bikes without a job, so job hunting starts now.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy new year, be safe and enjoy Porepunkah.

Thanks to the Club and Committee for some great rides and great memories for 2009.  (The accommodation at Adaminaby will be one to tell the grand children.)
