The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per magazine article (maximum 2 per magazine). Attending one or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating.
The count is for the 20010/11 year ending the ride before the 2011 AGM in July. After one month the top ten positions are: Ben Warden (19), Cliff Peters (14), Pina Garasi (10), Ron Johnston (10), Paul Southwell (9), Misho Zrakic (7), Dennis Lindemann (7), Paul Sorenson (6), and Jon Willis (6).

Welcome to new member Edward (Eddy) Simonis riding a Moto Guzi Sport 1200. “Fast Eddy” to his mates at Peter Stevens where he works. Juggling family commitments (daughters 19 and 16 at home), working 4 days a week and finding time to ride is a challenge. But the Sport 1200 certainly adds something different to the rides when he does get out. We wish him many fun and safe rides.
Towong (Melbourne Cup Weekend) is fully booked. It was advertised on the Google Group (16/7) and was fully subscribed 10 days later. The starters are: Ben Warden, Pierre Ong, Peter Jones, Misho Zrakic and Pina Garasi, Ern Reeders, Cliff and Barb Peters, Henry Wright, Ron Johnston, Tony Raditsis, John Rousseaux and Kate Stewart. I am taking names if you want to go on a waiting list. As it is also the Corryong Cup horse racing weekend, accommodation in Corryong is sparse. I am reliably informed that the Rob Jones’ clan (Ben Fuller, Ross, etc) have booked 5 twin share rooms in Khancoban and have beds to spare. Ben Fuller also notes that there is plenty of additional accommodation out the back of the motel complex.
The Committee is about to plan the next four months worth of rides, from October to January. There have been some discussions on the Google forum about planning weekends away. This is what is already planned: Melbourne Cup Weekend (early Nov), Xmas Camp December 26/12 to January 2/1, Australia Day 4 day weekend late January, Tasmania 8-10 days early March. This is a formal call for volunteer leaders for all the usual Sunday rides and for the weekends away. We need leaders, destinations (and ideally some idea of the route). The Committee can help with any or all of the logistics. If you need more information on-line, please visit “Aspects of Leading a Good ride” on the Club web site.
Kurn Bridgeman is recovering well from a full hip replacement (same leg as Tassy). He is home now after a short stay in rehab. The biggest decision was whether to go for a ceramic ball and socket or steel. Steel tends not to shatter, so steel it is, though it doesn’t last quite as long. We wish him a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back out on his CBR600.
